Hi, I'm Claire

 

I've spent over 10 years working in corporate wellbeing supporting professionals who are brilliant at what they do, but constantly feeling like work is taking more than it gives. I know how easily evenings, weekends and headspace can slip away in the name of being “committed.”

After losing my dad at 56, a dedicated Headteacher who gave everything to his job and sacrificed so much time away from home, I saw just how fragile the idea of “I’ll slow down later” really is. He had plans. Retirement. Time to finally enjoy life at a different pace. He never got that chance.

What stays with me is not just the loss, but the pattern I watched play out for years. Late nights that became normal. Weekends spent catching up rather than switching off. Family moments half-present because work was still running in his head. Holidays that were less about rest and more about recovery. Pushing through term after term, then crashing, then doing it all again.

It is a cycle high achievers know well. The constant pressure to keep going. The belief that stepping back means letting people down. The quiet fear that if you stop, everything might unravel. So you tell yourself it is temporary. Just this busy period. Just until things calm down. And before you realise it, that becomes your way of working.

This is not about lack of ambition or commitment. It is about how easily work can take over when your identity, responsibility, and sense of worth are tightly wrapped around what you do. And how quickly life outside of work gets reduced to whatever energy is left at the end.

That realisation changed everything for me and it's the reason I do the work I do today.
